Jetways operates daily flights to Wajir.  Flights arrive and depart from Wajir Airport.

Wajir is a Borana word that means coming together, bequeathed to this part of the country because of the different clans and pastoral communities that used to congregate in areas around Wajir town to water their animals from the abundant and dependable shallow wells that characterized the general land geomorphology.

Wajir was established in 1912 by the British and it served as their colonial headquarters. Wajir town is one of the oldest in Kenya after Malindi and Mji wa Kale in Mombasa.

The entire County enjoys abundant sunshine throughout the year, with vast tracts of land devoid of vegetation for solar power generation. The maximum temperatures range between 31oC in July and 36oC in March while minimum temperatures range between 21oC in July and 24oC in April.

The Eastern part of Wajir is covered with naturally growing thickets and forests that yield the largest quantities of gums and resins produced in Kenya more than half of the world’s supply.

Designated a national reserve in 1974, the Maasai Mara is Kenya’s most popular tourist destination. Part of the greater Serengeti Mara ecosystem, the Mara is home to some of the highest numbers of wildlife in the world

The Mara is most famous for the great migration, voted one of USA Today’s new Seven Wonders of the World in 2006. An annual flow of animals around the Serengeti Mara area, the migration brings over a million animals, especially wildebeest and the big cats that love to munch on them, into the Mara between June and October.

However there’s much more to the Mara than this. Tanzania’s Serengeti and Kenya’s Maasai Mara, together with the surrounding conservancies and group ranches, is one of the most naturally diverse and game-rich ecosystems in the world. Over six million animals reside here, including all safari’s Big Five; around 100 mammal species, 450 bird species and countless reptiles and insects are found here.

The Maasai people, a Nomadic tribe known for their ornately beaded dress and prowess as warriors, gave the area its name and are still found here today; many camps and lodges in the area offer trips to their traditional villages. While animal- and bird-spotting on a game drive is probably the most popular activity in the reserve, the conservancies around the reserve offer all sorts of other ways to view the wealth of wildlife. Rides in a hot air balloon, horse safaris, game walks and scenic flights over the Mara are all available here.
